In my previous post I talked about how top farming entities are using AI and IOT devices to automate farming in a big way which is resulting in enhancing growth of plants growing hydroponically.


Looking deeper into various published research reports tracking IOT devices used by top farming companies to achieve high growth, we can conclude that most devices are used for automating and optimizing environment conditions like temperature, humidity, pH levels, and nutrient concentrations. Automation also helps in improving the yield quality in a more sustainable manner.


I am listing few key components that are used widely-


  • pH Sensors: These sensors maintain the acidity or alkalinity of the nutrient solution, essential for plant health.

    • Types: Glass electrode pH sensor, Solid-state pH sensor.

  • Electrical Conductivity (EC) Sensors: Measure dissolved salts in the nutrient solution to control nutrient levels.

    • Type: TDS sensors.

  • Humidity Sensors: Measure moisture in the air to ensure optimal humidity for growth.

    • Types: DHT11/DHT22 sensors.

  • Ion-Selective Electrodes: Detect critical nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus, which are essential for plant growth.

  • Other Sensors: Light sensors optimize the amount of light plants receive, and temperature sensors maintain the ideal growing conditions to prevent stress and maximize resource efficiency.
